Description
The GH-46 calorimeter is used in various studies of specific heat, latent heat of vaporization (steam), and latent heat of fusion (ice).
The heating coil, which has a resistance of approximately 1.5 Ohms, is connected to standard binding posts on the molded phenolic cover.
A six-volt DC power supply will typically cause a temperature rise of 15C in about 10 minutes, assuming that the inner cup contains about 225ml of water. The supporting posts and coil are coated to minimize electrolysis.
Extensive instructions are included which discuss all three of the general types of demonstrations.
Curves are also available that show the approximate heat loss versus time of the assembled unit. Calculations can then be adjusted for these losses and bring student results into closer agreement with the known and generally accepted values.
The unit comes complete with an insulated handle on the stirrer and a single-hole rubber stopper for the thermometer (not included).
Inner container volume: 300 ml
Outer container volume: 900 ml
